Hypertransitory: Black Superhero Month
Welcome to the Hypertransitory.com Black Super-Hero page.
Every day of Black Super-Hero Month (Feb. 2011) I picked out a new one, drew them up and wrote a little about what I thought of the character. I had fun doing it so I might do it again one of these years…

28 Days of Black Super Heroes – The Wrap Up
Day 28 of 28 Days of Black Super Heroes here on Hypertransitory.com, and this is the final wrap up.

Jackknife Jenkins – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 27
Jackknife isn’t technically a super-hero, he’s more of an espionage type of character, similar to Jason Bourne of The Bourne Identity.

Kid Hype! – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 26
Kid Hype is a character I had in my head for a very long time, and I finally took a crack at realizing it a few years ago.

Storm – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 25
Storm is arguably the most recognized Black hero out there today. I saved this one for the end of the month because as cool and positive as Storm is there are some issues there that I always get hung up on.

Black Nick Fury – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 24
Now, some of you might call this guy “Ultimate” Nick Fury, since he’s from the Ultimate line of Marvel Comics. I’m just gonna call him by the name I always call him – Black Nick Fury.

Cyborg – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 23
Cyborg is one of those very unfortunate characters in comics that make you say “damn, enough is enough already”. He reminds me of the Hulk, the Thing and other heroes that just get eternally crapped on by writers and by their in-story lives as well.

Sunspot – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 22
Sunspot was always one of my favorite mutant characters. For one because he was very worldly, and also because he had some cool powers that I often wished I could have.

Steel – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 21
Steel is one of those characters I initially liked a lot, but then dropped because it just wasn’t interesting to me anymore. I still like the basic idea of the character but I don’t really follow his adventures.

The Falcon – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 20
The Falcon is one of those characters that I traditionally looked down on, but on further examination, my disdain wasn’t really warranted.
By JG Sunday February 20, 2011
Power Man – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 19
This Power Man is a little bit difficult to like sometimes. He’s one of those characters who’s overly concerned with fame and accolades. The trash-talking types that no one really respects like Superboy or Speedball were at first.

Static – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 18
Static was easily my favorite of the Milestone heroes. He was the underdog who made good, and he was closer to my age I guess, with experiences that I could more easily relate to.

Rocket – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 17
Everybody loved Rocket because she was the kind of girl who would have your back. She and her partner Icon made a very unique and entertaining team.

Hardware – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 16
Hardware was one of the “Big Three” of Milestone Media. At least to me, anyway. Although he was probably my least favorite of the three when the whole Milestone line debuted, that’s still saying he was the worst of the very best, which is pretty damn good.

ICON – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 15
Man, Icon was the black Superman I’d been waiting on since I first started reading comics. The creators of the Milestone Media characters really did something special when they founded their comics line back in the 90′s.

Misty Knight – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 14
Ahhh, sweet Misty Knight. Who couldn’t love her? Actually a lot of the time she’s not so sweet, but she is bad-ass. So very bad-ass. A bad-ass martial arts expert. The kind of chick you want watching your back when sh*t starts going down.

Triathlon – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 13
Triathlon is what I like to refer to as H.A.M. HOT. ASS. MESS. I take issue with the fact that this extremely lame character shares my last name. What is this world coming to?

Bishop – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 12
Day 12 of 28 Days of Black Super Heroes, today’s hero is the Marvel Comics’ character Bishop.
I must admit that I never truly “got” this character. I did have respect for him at times, but I never bought a comic just because he was in it.
Considering the way he ended up I’m glad I didn’t get too invested in him.

Brother Voodoo – 28 days of Black Super Heroes – Day 11
Brother Voodoo is another character that I read only sporadically over the years, and mostly during his recent spurt of popularity.

Blade – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 10
I’m not talking about the Wesley Snipes movie version here, or even the post-Snipes comic version seen in print in the last couple of years.
I’m talking about the old 1970′s style Blade that used to use the old wooden (sharpened teak)

Mr. Terrific – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 9
Here’s the thing: Mr. Terrific is the kind of character I *should* like. Except I don’t. Mostly because I haven’t read too much about him. And that’s mostly because he’s hooked up with the Justice Society of America, which bores me beyond measure.

Nighthawk – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 8
I really dig this character, but I don’t think he’s in print right now. I’m not sure if there’s anything with him coming up on the horizon.

Rage – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 7
I never cared much for this character. He had pretty standard-issue, uncreative powers, plus he was kind of an angry bastard all the time (hence his name). Oh, get this: Rage’s strength would grow the more he punched things or used his power in an aggressive way, kind of like the Hulk.

Green Lantern (John Stewart) – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes -Day 6
John Stewart is Hal Jordan’s backup cop, should anything happen to him.
Actually, that’s not quite true. John Stewart is the backup backup cop. Green Lantern Guy Gardner was the primary backup to Hal Jordan. John was really only brought in when Guy was injured and out of action.

Patriot – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 5
This will be a quick one, since I really don’t know too much about Patriot. I don’t care to read about his adventures since his team, the Young Avengers, isn’t very interesting to me.

War Machine – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 4
War Machine is James “Rhodey” Rhodes, the best friend of well known Marvel hero Iron-Man. Most of you already knew this from suffering through the latest, and frankly pretty awful, Iron-Man 2 movie.

Black Goliath – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 3
What I remember about Black Goliath is that I really didn’t like the character. I didn’t like that he was an also-ran type of a character who was following in the footsteps of an original character…

Vixen – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 2
Vixen (real name Mari McCabe) is a woman who possesses a magical totem that allows her to mimic the characteristics and abilities of any animal. The power seems kind of stupid at first but bear with me…

Black Lightning – 28 Days of Black Super Heroes – Day 1
I have to be honest here, back in the day I didn’t really know too much about Black Lightning, I thought the character was a copy of Black Vulcan from the old Superfriends series.

Black Superheroes 2011 – The Preview!
Last year I started off with a grand idea to showcase 28 Black superheroes in the month of February, since February is “our month” and all. Well, my laziness got the better of me and I did…three. Three? THREE?? That’s all? Hey, I said I was lazy, didn’t I?

February is Black History SUPERHERO Month: BLACK CAPTAIN MARVEL
This is a character who has gone by many names – Photon, Pulsar, but most notably, her first code name was Captain Marvel. This character is not nearly as much of a hot mess as most of them.

Black History Superhero Month: THE BLACK PANTHER
Another Black day, another Black superhero. This time we’ll focus on Marvel Comics The Black Panther.

Black History Superhero Month: Luke Cage – Power Man
Well in honor of Black History Month, I’ve decided to write a few articles on some of the Black Superheroes of comics history. Trust me, some of it is H.A.M. – HOT…ASS…MESS. Let’s start with one of the most prominent Black superheroes out there today - Luke Cage, Power Man. Yeah, I drew him in [...]
