I did this one all in pencil (I adjusted some of the tone of the pencil in Photoshop). There are all kinds of different shading/smearing tools to help smooth out the pencil, but I rarely use them (which is why it still looks kind of cartoony). Her face is all only in pencil? I've been sketching since I was a kid and some of my stuff comes out okay but I find that I can never quite get the image in my head onto the page...and I think it's the shading that throws me off.
