Pencil drawing of Elena from The Vampire Diaries

This is a pencil drawing I did recently of the character Elena from the CW TV series The Vampire Diaries. I dropped in the text and blood spatter in Photoshop.

Honestly I never gave the show a chance because I thought it would be like Twilight, but this seems to be a lot more grown up. Or as grown up as a vampire show can be.

Anyway, I drew up some others as well, so I’ll probably post those later.

She looks great! The only thing that I notice is that her face isn’t that slender. She kind of had a round face, right? Do you have one of Damon? He’s so dreamy :)

Hey Sara, I started out just copying comic books when I was a kid, but then I formalized it with some art training in high school and college. Figure drawing classes and such. do you have any of your work online?

I don’t watch that show but that picture is gorgeous. Her face is all only in pencil? I’ve been sketching since I was a kid and some of my stuff comes out okay but I find that I can never quite get the image in my head onto the page…and I think it’s the shading that throws me off. I shade and blend as much as I can but for some reason I can’t get it right. :(

Hi Lizzy, yeah it’s pretty tough to do sometimes. I did this one all in pencil (I adjusted some of the tone of the pencil in Photoshop).

There are all kinds of different shading/smearing tools to help smooth out the pencil, but I rarely use them (which is why it still looks kind of cartoony). It’s hard to do a true photographic representation. I can do it but it just takes me a lot of time to get it right.

Well, I think you do an incredible job. Your work is really amazing. Do you have any desire to get it on display anywhere like a museum exhibit or something? Or do you sell any of your work?

Well, I’m not really a museum type fine artist, so I never seriously considered that. I’ve got an “art store” part of the site brewing now, i’m just trying to figure out the best online fulfillment place to work with.
